Our Legacy

Cow Creek Taxidermy and Game Processing was founded by Richard A. Schmidt of Boerne, Texas — a true "All-Around Nice Guy" with a lifelong passion for hunting, nature, and craftsmanship.

Born and raised in San Antonio, Richard’s roots in the Texas Hill Country run deep, with a family heritage in Boerne that goes back over a century. Hunting and deer processing were a way of life, and sausage-making was a treasured family tradition. These time-honored skills and recipes, passed down through generations, are the foundation of the work we do today.

What began as a way for Richard to process deer for his own family quickly grew, as friends and coworkers sought out his help — drawn by his expertise and the exceptional flavors of his sausage and other specialty meats.

Richard's love for the outdoors naturally extended into the art of taxidermy. From a young age, he found joy in preserving the beauty of wildlife. In 1993, he began training under a master taxidermist in San Antonio, refining his skills and learning advanced techniques. Eventually, he launched his own business, combining high-quality taxidermy with expert game processing.

Today, Cow Creek serves over 500 loyal clients annually — all through word of mouth.

Richard is a proud member of both the Texas Taxidermy Association and the United Taxidermist Association. He’s built his business on a foundation of honesty, integrity, and a deep commitment to quality. Every client receives personal service and the kind of trust that can only come from genuine, old-fashioned humility.

At Cow Creek, we like to say this is:
“The Way It Oughtta Be.”
And once you experience it, we think you’ll agree.
